About Cara Lusby

 

BIO: Dr. Lusby is originally from Nashville, TN. She spent a number of years in Atlanta while obtaining her undergraduate and graduate degrees. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, going on walks through the neighborhood with her dog, Ollie, watching college football, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

 

TRAINING: Dr. Lusby completed her undergraduate degree at Emory University, with a major in psychology and a minor in French. She also received her M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Emory. Her graduate research fell broadly within the domain of developmental psychopathology, with a specific interest in emotion regulation systems in at-risk infants, children, and adolescents. While at Emory, she was trained in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Dr. Lusby completed her pre-doctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship in clinical child/pediatric psychology through the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology at the University of Florida. Her clinical focus was on assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with a variety of presenting concerns (including ADHD, ODD, learning concerns, and mood and anxiety disorders), using evidence-based approaches. While at UF, she also co-developed the adolescent DBT program, a unique service in the region and the first of its kind in the department.

EXPERTISE: Dr. Lusby has expertise in treating children and adolescents using empirically-supported treatments for mood and anxiety disorders as well as ADHD and co-occurring behavioral disorders, such as oppositional defian disorder ODD. She has received intensive training in DBT for adolescents who engage in self-injury and suicidal behavior.

EVIDENCE-BASED THERAPIES OFFERED: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Unified Protocol for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders in Children and Adolescents (UP-C and UP-A), & Behavioral Parent Training (BPT)

POPULATIONS SERVED: Dr. Lusby sees children (ages 5+) and adolescents for individual and group therapy. She also workers with parents and caregivers to address youth behaviors through our BPT program. She does not work with adults outside of the BPT program and does not provide couples therapy.
