ABOUT DR. NICKSIC SIGMON
BIO: Dr. Nicksic Sigmon was born and raised in Colorado. After obtaining her Bachelor’s degree, she moved to Indianapolis for graduate school, the first of many big moves. She completed internship in Southwest Virginia, then moved across the country to complete post-doctoral training in San Diego. Upon obtaining licensure, she moved back to Virginia then back to San Diego, got married along the way, and then ultimately moved back to the East Coast to put down roots in North Carolina. When not working, Dr. Nicksic enjoys running, training for races, reading, exploring new places, watching football, and spending time with family and close friends.
TRAINING: Dr. Nicksic Sigmon completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University. She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). Dr. Nicksic Sigmon gained her first exposure to Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) during her predoctoral internship delivering treatment to Veterans at a VA Medical Center. She was also fortunate enough during internship to be trained in gold-standard evidence-based therapies for PTSD, including Prolonged Exposure (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). During her postdoctoral training and early career psychologist years, Dr. Nicksic Sigmon continued advanced training in these areas and was intensively trained in DBT by Behavioral Tech, LLC.
EXPERTISE: Dr. Nicksic Sigmon has expertise in treating pervasive emotion dysregulation, which often results from a combination of exposure to traumatic events, invalidating/unsupportive childhood environments, and/or lack of opportunity to learn how to effectively cope with high intensity negative emotions. Related to this expertise, Dr. Nicksic Sigmon often works with individuals with suicidal behaviors and thoughts, self-harm, and ongoing interpersonal dysregulation. She is passionate about reducing stigma associated with personality disorders and working with people with high shame and identity dysregulation who feel that they do not fit in or are not accepted by others. Dr. Nicksic Sigmon also sought out specialized training and cultivated expertise in working with survivors of sexual trauma, including but not limited to childhood sexual abuse and military sexual trauma.
Dr. Nicksic Sigmon sees adults (ages 18+) and adolescents (ages 14+). She does both individual and group therapy. Dr. Nicksic Sigmon also has expertise in working with Veterans. She does not see children or adolescents younger than 14 and does not do couples or family work.
