ABOUT DR. WEINEL

BIO: Dr. Weinel was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. As a native North Carolinian, she finds it deeply important and meaningful to practice medicine in her home state. Outside of psychiatric practice, Dr. Weinel loves spending time outdoors, kayaking, taking long walks with her German Shepherd dog, and enjoying quality time with her husband.

TRAINING: Dr. Weinel completed her undergraduate degree in 2013 with highest honors in Biology and Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in 2017. She completed both her residency in Adult Psychiatry and her fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. She is double board-certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Adult Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Weinel lived in the Bay Area from 2022-2023 and worked for Kaiser Permanente in San Jose, California in the Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic and in the Autism Spectrum Disorder Center.

EXPERTISE: Dr. Weinel has expertise in the treatment of mood disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, autism spectrum disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and more. Dr. Weinel believes that her role as a psychiatrist should be focused on carefully listening to patients’ stories, hearing each individual’s unique perspective, and collaborating to set treatment goals together. It takes time to thoughtfully understand the needs of individual patients, their family members, and other support network members (which may include teachers, counselors, speech therapists, etc.). Dr. Weinel cherishes psychiatry’s personal approach to medicine and thrives in the process of building long-term relationships with patients and their families. She is passionate about supporting her patients and enabling them to discover their own strengths and achieve their personal goals.

POPULATIONS SERVED:

Dr. Weinel sees children (2-12), adolescents (13-17), and adults (18-65) for medication management.
