ABOUT Nicole

 

BIO: Nicole moved to Durham from Seattle, WA in 2018 for her husband to attend graduate school at Duke University. Nicole and her husband made Durham home when they welcomed their daughter in 2019. She enjoys spending her time running, practicing yoga, hiking, skiing and keeping in touch with close friends and family all over the country. 

 

TRAINING: Nicole completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Linfield College in McMinnville, OR. She received an MS from Iona College in New Rochelle, NY, in Marriage and Family Therapy. While in graduate school, Nicole interned at various LGBT Centers and in couples counseling practices across NYC.  After graduate school, Nicole received intensive training in Multisystemic Therapy (MST), working with high-risk youth and their families in the Bronx and in Manhattan. With a return to Seattle in 2014, Nicole became a Clinical Supervisor for Family Integrated Transitions (MST-FIT), an adaptation of MST for youth returning home from secure incarceration. With increased interest in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), she transitioned to working at an intensive outpatient clinic for eating disorders and completed intensive training in DBT in 2018. Nicole continues to provide weekly clinical consultation and bi-yearly trainings for the Norway FIT program, a program designed to support therapists in helping prevent out of home placements of youth by behavioral interventions and structural family therapy principles.

EXPERTISE: Nicole has expertise in the treatment of mood disturbanceanxiety and stress,  personality disorders, and eating disorders. She has received specialized training in DBT for people who experience significant emotion dysregulation and who engage in self-injury and suicidality. She has obtained individual therapist certification in DBT through the Linehan Board of Certification (LBC).  In addition, Nicole has experience in family therapy treatments, including Multisystemic Therapy (MST) and Family Integrated Transitions (FIT). She offers couples therapy for couples in distress and is a certified Prepare/Enrich facilitator, which is a program for couples enrichment. Nicole is also a member of our Behavioral Parent Training program.

EVIDENCE-BASED THERAPIES OFFERED: DBT, CBT,  Family Therapies, Prepare/Enrich, Behavioral Parent Training, CBCT

          

POPULATIONS SERVED: Nicole sees both adults (ages 18+) and adolescents (ages 12+) for individual therapy. She also provides couples counseling and family therapy. Nicole does not see children (under 12).
